Hungry and homeless Philippine jeepney drivers hit by coronavirus
Forced off the road by coronavirus lockdowns, Philippine “jeepney” drivers are now plying the streets of Manila on foot begging for money to feed themselves and their families. Jeepneys — first made from leftover US jeeps after World War II — are the backbone of the country’s transport system, but many drivers are now out of work after the months-long virus restrictions crippled the Philippines’ economy.
