Philippines faces worst COVID 19 crisis in Southeast Asia leading to financial crisis

The people in the Philippines are suffering from one of the toughest and longest lockdowns in the world. As the government struggles to deal with the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak, the ultra-strict quarantine and social distancing measures which have now stretched to more than half a year, have left the economy on its knees. The move has also left millions of people jobless and hungry. The dire situation has now pushed millions of people to the brink of starvation.

The Philippines has the highest number of coronavirus infections in Southeast Asia. The government imposed one of the worldโ€™s strictest lockdowns which lasted from March until October and still going .. . The lockdown in the capital, Manila is easing, and many are hoping it will help kickstart economic recovery. But it will be tough – thousands of businesses have closed and with an unemployment of 45%, millions of people are out of work.
